A simple recipe from the legendary Irish chef and culinary teacher Darina Allen as covered on the Today with Sean O'Rourke RTE Radio show. My own addition is to add sugar and raisins or sultanas - it can be very tasty, eaten with jam.

Step preview

  1. Add dry ingredients to a clean large mixing bowl
  2. Add sugar to the large mixing bowl
  3. Add raisins to the large mixing bowl
  4. Add buttermilk to the large mixing bowl
  5. Mix in gradually until dough forms
  6. Add buttermilk to the large mixing bowl
  7. Add carefully
  8. Bake - approx 55 min, 230°C
  9. Transfer onto cooling rack until cool
