Step preview

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C
  2. Dust a baking tray with flour then set aside
  3. Place plain flour, wholemeal flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda in mixing bowl
  4. Mix with MC in place 5 sec/speed 5
  5. Add buttermilk
  6. Mix with MC in place for 25 sec/speed 5
  7. Working quickly, tip the sticky dough out onto a floured surface and bring together into a ball
  8. Place on prepared tray
  9. Dust loaf with flour then, with a floured sharp knife cut a cross in the top of dough about 3 cm deep
  10. Bake for 25-35 minutes (200°C) until loaf sounds hollow when tapped underneath
  11. Transfer to a wire rack to cool before serving
