This is a very versatile dinner roll dough that also works great for making your own burger or hot dog buns. They actually remind me a bit of the dinner rolls my grandma made when I was a kid.

Step preview

  1. Add water and granulated sugar to a clean glass measuring cup
  2. Mix until sugar has dissolved
  3. Add quick-rise yeast to the yeast mixture
  4. Mix until dissolved then set aside
  5. Prepare
  6. Add plain flour, granulated sugar, salt, egg and unsalted butter to a clean medium bowl
  7. Transfer yeast mixture to dough
  8. Blend until dough forms
  9. Transfer dough to medium bowl
  10. Cover then set aside
  11. Add unsalted butter to a clean saucepan
  12. Cook until melted and let cool - low heat
  13. Transfer dough to lightly floured surface
  14. Form into balls
  15. Prepare a clean square pan
  16. Transfer dough balls to square pan
  17. Transfer half of content of saucepan to square pan
  18. Brush evenly until covered
  19. Cover then set aside
  20. Let rise until doubled - approx 45 min
  21. Bake - 8 min, 205°C
  22. Uncover
  23. Bake until light golden - 5 min, 205°C
  24. Transfer the rest of content of saucepan to square pan
  25. Brush evenly until covered
  26. Serve
