  1. Heat a clean large saucepan - medium heat
  2. Add lamb shoulder and salt & pepper to the large saucepan
  3. Fry evenly until browned - medium heat
  4. Add carrot, onion, leek, potato, bay leaves and pearl barley to the large saucepan
  5. Pour chicken stock into the large saucepan
  6. simmer to simmer - 2 hr 30 min, low heat
  7. Add fresh parsley and fresh chives to the large saucepan
  8. Cook while stirring occasionally - 10 min, low heat
  9. Season with salt & pepper
