Step preview

  1. Heat a clean large cast iron skillet - medium-high heat
  2. Add - 5 min, medium-high heat
  3. Add - 2 min, medium-high heat
  4. Add - medium-high heat
  5. Prepare a clean slow cooker bowl and cover
  6. Add sweet potato and red lentils to the slow cooker bowl
  7. Cook in slow cooker until tender - 7 hr, low heat
  8. Purée with stick blender
  9. Stir in whole milk to the slow cooker bowl
  10. Heat a clean medium cast iron skillet - medium heat
  11. Add - 10 min, medium heat
  12. Stir in ground cumin, ground turmeric, fennel seeds and superfine sugar to the medium cast iron skillet
  13. Fry until golden brown - 5 min, medium-low heat
  14. None
  15. Arrange onion mixture in 6 medium bowls
  16. Serve with pita bread
