The Czechs’ love for garlic easily transcends the realm of food, and it has even attained urban legend status as a focal point of several Czech superstitions and traditions. At Christmas time, for example, you’ll see a bowl of peeled garlic put under the table to offer everyone strength and protection. When dealing with an ailment like a sinus infection, hangover or anything else, a bowl of garlic-heavy cesnecka is the de facto prescription. - 250 g

- 340 g

- Parmesan cheese

Large saucepan
Step preview
- Add butter and garlic to a clean large saucepan
- Sauté until fragrant - 1 min, medium heat
- Add onion, caraway seeds, sea salt and black pepper to a clean small bowl
- Transfer onion mixture to large saucepan
- Sauté until softened - 1 min, medium heat
- Add vegetable stock to the large saucepan
- Heat until boiling - medium-high heat
- Add potato to the large saucepan
- Simmer until tender and continue - 15 min, medium-low heat
- Pre-heat oven - 175°C
- Add rustic french bread, olive oil, garlic powder, dried oregano, black pepper and sea salt to a clean large mixing bowl
- Toss until coated
- Transfer a clean baking sheet
- Bake until golden brown - 10 min, 175°C
- Add parmesan cheese to the small bowl
- Add fresh parsley to the onion mixture
