My grandma was directly from Poland so Cabbage Rolls is a dish I’ve enjoyed my whole life. Grandmas kitchen always smelled incredible… and there was always something amazing to eat!

Step preview

  1. Add water to a clean large saucepan
  2. To remove leaves from head of cabbage, cut approx 1/4" off the bottom of the head
  3. Add cabbage to the large saucepan
  4. Boil - 2 min
  5. Transfer cabbage to work surface then set aside
  6. Pre-heat oven - 175°C
  7. Add water and white rice to a clean saucepan
  8. Cook rice according to package directions but reduce cooking time by 5 minutes so the rice is slightly underdone
  9. Set aside
  10. Pre-heat a clean frying pan
  11. Add ground pork, ground beef, onion, garlic clove, dill and fresh parsley to the frying pan
  12. Cook in frying pan until just cooked
  13. Drain any fat from the frying pan
  14. Transfer rice to frying pan
  15. Add tomato sauce, canned diced tomatoes and salt & pepper to the frying pan
  16. Add egg to the frying pan while stirring frequently
  17. Mix tomato sauce and tomato soup into a clean small bowl
  18. Add two spoonfuls tomato mixture to baking pan
  19. Remove or thin any thick stem on cabbage leaves
  20. Lay the cabbage leaf flat and add 1/3 cup filling to the center of the leaf
  21. Fold in the sides and roll the cabbage up
  22. Place seam side down in the pan
  23. Repeat with remaining cabbage
  24. Pour tomato mixture into baking pan
  25. Cover tightly with foil
  26. Bake - 1 hr 15 min, 175°C
  27. Let cool onto cooling rack - 15 min
