Step preview
- Add unsalted butter and granulated sugar to a clean stand mixer bowl
- Cream together until light and fluffy
- Add egg to the dough
- Mix well until smooth
- Add all purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, ground cinnamon, nutmeg and ground cloves to a clean large mixing bowl
- Whisk together
- Mix dry ingredients into dough gradually
- Add ground almonds to the dough
- Mix until dough forms
- Wrap with plastic wrap
- Chill in fridge - 1 hr
- Pre-heat oven - 175°C
- Line a clean baking sheet with parchment paper
- Roll dough until 1/8" (5mm) thick
- Make as many circles as you can, then cut out center hearts on half
- Bake until golden brown - 10 min, 175°C
- Transfer onto cooling rack
- Spread with jam
- Assemble
- Dust with powdered sugar
