Homemade tortillas are so much tastier than the paper-thin, mass-produced kind! Use them for tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, with eggs for breakfast. Try making them ahead in big batches and freezing them until needed.

Step preview

  1. Add all purpose flour, salt and baking powder to a clean large mixing bowl
  2. Whisk together
  3. Add shortening to the dough
  4. Rub in until coarse crumbs form
  5. Mix in water to the dough
  6. Knead until smooth on a lightly floured surface or in a mixer
  7. Divide into a ball
  8. Roll out until 1/8" (5mm) thick
  9. Cook them one at a time on a hot skillet when it starts to bubble a bit, flip over
  10. Keep warm with kitchen towel
