I tried these cookies for the first time when my sister made them over the holidays and they were devoured in no time! She adds sea salt on top which amplified the intense dark chocolate and took these cookies to the next level. Original recipe is from Dorie Greenspan.

- 11 tablespoons

- Bittersweet chocolate
- 140 g

- All purpose flour
- 160 g

- Cocoa powder
- 30 g

- Baking soda
- ½ teaspoon

- Light brown sugar
- 130 g

- White sugar
- 50 g

- Vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon

- Sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon

Large mixing bowl

Medium bowl

Baking sheet - 18 x 13"
Step preview
- Sift all purpose flour, cocoa powder and baking soda into a clean medium bowl
- Add unsalted butter to a clean large mixing bowl
- Beat until smooth
- Add light brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla extract and sea salt to the large mixing bowl
- Beat until fluffy - approx 2 min
- Transfer content of medium bowl to large mixing bowl
- Beat until just blended
- Add bittersweet chocolate to the large mixing bowl
- Mix in evenly
- Divide into halves
- Roll into logs
- Wrap with plastic wrap
- Chill in fridge until firm - approx 3 hr
- Pre-heat oven - 160°C
- Line 2 clean baking sheets with parchment paper
- Cut into rounds
- Place evenly
- Sprinkle with sea salt
- Bake until dry - 12 min
- Transfer onto cooling rack
- Cool
- Serve
