Sourdough donuts to celebrate sourdough September. The combination of sourdough and baking soda gives these donuts a great texture and flavor. They're yummy on their own, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, or dipped in chocolate glaze (separate recipe).

- Grapeseed oil
- 500 ml

- 260 g

- 1 teaspoon

- Baking soda
- ½ teaspoon

- Granulated sugar
- 100 g

- Ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon

- Salt
- ½ teaspoon

- Rye sourdough starter
- 95 g

- Grapeseed oil
- 2 tablespoons

- 1

- Buttermilk
- 80 ml

Step preview
- Add grapeseed oil to a clean frying pan
- Heat - 180°C, medium-high heat
- Add all purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon and salt to a clean medium bowl
- Mix briefly then set aside
- Add rye sourdough starter, grapeseed oil, egg and buttermilk to a clean large mixing bowl
- Whisk until combined
- Transfer dry ingredients to mixture
- Mix gently until dough forms
- Transfer mixture to lightly floured surface
- Knead
- Roll out
- Cut out
- Fry
- Drain with paper towels
- Let cool on round wire rack
