My grandma made these cookies when I was a kid. The recipe is from her grandma. The original recipe called for 1.5 cups of 'shortening' (which would've been grease saved from cooking). I remember my grandmother used half butter & half Crisco (vegetable shortening), which is what I have here. You can use all butter as well.

Step preview

  1. Add shortening, butter, white sugar and brown sugar to a clean large mixing bowl
  2. Cream
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract to the dough balls
  4. Mix
  5. Add all purpose flour, salt, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground cloves and nutmeg to the dough balls
  6. Mix until blended
  7. Add chocolate chips and walnuts to the dough balls
  8. Fold
  9. Refrigerate - approx 1 hr
  10. Pre-heat oven - 205°C
  11. Scoop
  12. Transfer dough balls to baking sheet
  13. Bake - 6 min, 205°C
  14. Serve
