Welsh cakes (Welsh: picau ar y maen, pice bach, cacen gri or teisen radell), also Welshcakes or pics, are traditional in Wales.They have been popular since the late 19th Century, they are a traditional tea-time treat that are really easy to make. Eat them warm from the stove, or store in an airtight container for up to a week.

Step preview

  1. Add self raising flour and salted butter to a clean medium bowl
  2. Rub in until coarse crumbs form
  3. Add caster sugar, sultanas and egg to the medium bowl
  4. Mix in well until just combined
  5. Roll out on lightly-floured surface until 1/4" thick
  6. Cut into rounds
  7. Grease
  8. Cook until golden brown - 2 min
  9. Flip until golden brown then set aside - 2 min
  10. Repeat
  11. Sprinkle a clean small bowl with caster sugar
